During the Dutch Design Week 2019 in Eindhoven we had the pleasure to sit and talk to Stefano Boeri, architect, urban planner and founding partner of Stefano Boeri Architetti. We talked about his inspirations, his take on architects as directors of the future and whether including business studies as a parallel course for students of architecture is a good idea.

Stefano Boeri is an Italian architect and urban planner, born in 1956 in Milan. In 1980 he graduated in Architecture at Politecnico in Milan and in 1989 he received his Ph.D. from Instituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia (IUAV). Full Professor of Urban Planning at Politecnico in Milan. Visiting Professor at numerous universities, including Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design (GSD), the Strelka Institute in Moscow, Berlage Institute in the Netherlands, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. In 1999, with Gianandrea Barreca and Giovanni La Varra, he founded Boeri Studio. In 2008 he founded Stefano Boeri Architetti and in 2013 in Shanghai, with Yibo Xu, he founded Stefano Boeri Architetti China. Curator of numerous international exhibitions. In 1997 he was Managing Director of the Architecture section for La Triennale di Milano. Since 2017 Art Director of Milano Arch Week promoted by the Municipality of Milan, with Politecnico, Fondazione La Triennale and Fondazione Feltrinelli. In 2017 he curated Shanghai Urban Space Art Session (SUSAS), the most important urban planning, architecture and public art event promoted by the Shanghai Municipality.
